The so-called "Grand Bargain" immigration bill now being considered in the Senate, S. 1348, contains many problematic provisions, and does not respect the human rights of immigrants. We need to urge the Senate to reject this bill NOW!

Senate Immigration Bill Action Alert from the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (NNIRR)

URGE THE SENATE TO REJECT S. 1348,
THE BORDER SECURITY AND IMMIGRATION REFORM ACT OF 2007

The so-called "Grand Bargain" immigration bill now being considered in the Senate, S. 1348, contains many problematic provisions, and does not respect the human rights of immigrants. S. 1348 does not meet the standard of fair and just immigration reform. Given the precarious political balance in the Senate, amendments to "improve" S. 1348 cannot remedy the dangerous flaws in this bill.

We need to urge the Senate to reject this bill NOW; we need to work for a different "starting point" for immigration reform that protects the rights of all immigrant families, workers and communities.
The Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2007 is not a bill that we can support, nor do we believe it can be substantially improved. We urge you to call your senator NOW to express your opposition to S. 1348

2)                 Share your story and/or the views voiced in immigrant communities. Senate members continue to express surprise about the concerns and opposition in immigrant communities: S. 1348 will deepen the immigration crisis.

3)                 Tell the Senators that we want fair and just immigration reform that provides real legalization, expands opportunities for legal residency and family reunification; ensures labor rights for all; and respects civil liberties and due process. We oppose a new guest worker program, border militarization and the undermining of civil liberties.

URGIR AL SENADO A RECHAZAR S. 1348,
EL ACTA DE SEGURIDAD FRONTERIZA
Y REFORMA MIGRATORIA DE 2007

El proyecto de ley sobre reforma migratoria llamado la "Gran Oferta" ahora en consideración en el Senado, el S. 1348, contiene muchas provisiones problemáticas y no respeta los derechos humanos de las y los inmigrantes. El S. 1348 no cumple la norma de una reforma justa y equitativa. Dado el precario balance político que rige en el Senado, las enmiendas para "mejorar" el S. 1348 no repararán las muchas fallas peligrosas que contiene este proyecto de ley.

Necesitamos urgirle al Senado que rechace este proyecto de ley YA; necesitamos lograr un "punto de partida" diferente para la reforma migratoria que proteja los derechos de todas las familias, trabajadores y comunidades de inmigrantes.


El Acta de Seguridad Fronteriza y Reforma Migratoria de 2007 no es un proyecto de ley que podemos apoyar. Tampoco creemos que puede ser mejorado sustancialmente. Les urgimos a que llamen a sus Senadores YA para expresar su oposición al S. 1348.

    3     Dígale a sus Senadores que exgimos una reforma migratoria justa y equitativa que provee una legalización verdadera, que expanda las oportunidades para la residencia permanente y la reunificación familiar; que asegure derechos laborales para todas y todos; y respete las libertades civiles y los procesos constitucionales. Nos oponemos a un nuevo programa de braceros (trabajadores huéspedes) y el socavar de las libertades civiles.
